11. International Conference: THERMAM (postponed to 2023)

Due to the surprising death of Dr. Javid Safarov, which leaves us in deep mourning, the 11th International Conference: “Technical Thermodynamics: Thermophysical Properties and Energy Systems” (THERMAM) will not take place in 2022, but has been postponed until 2023. Further details will be posted timely.

Objective and Scope

Technical thermodynamics is the foundation of all technical energy systems. Because of the current global warming all over the world the energy systems are in the focus of the politics and economies and dramatic changes are due. The classical division of the energy thermodynamics aka engineering thermodynamics on one side and the more material properties oriented thermodynamics sometimes called chemical thermodynamics is more and more obsolete. The THERMAM conference aims to cover all aspects of modern or future energy systems. Focus is on current or future technical applications rather than on fundamental aspects. The conference objective is to report on current research development in this active area and serve as a forum for discussions and collaborations.

The conference will take place at the Conference Halls of Mechanical Engineering Faculty, Albert-Einstein-Str. 2, 18059, University of Rostock, Germany, located at the south side of Rostock, 10 walking minutes from the main train station. For scientists, who are interested in joining, but limited by travel restrictions, it is planned to set up a live stream that will enable watching the presentations online.

Some background information about the University of Rostock

The city of Rostock is located at the estuary of the Warnow river, with the city-center being positioned about 12 kilometres south to the coast of the Baltic Sea. Rostock was founded in the 11th century, but the rise of the city got started with its membership of the Hanseatic League, beginning in 1251. In the 14th century Rostock was a signifcant seaport and market place. After the reformation and the thirty-years-war, ending in 1648, the importance of the city stalled, but Rostock re-emerged in the 19th century with the industrialization of Germany. Today, with about 200,000 citizens, Rostock is the largest city in the north-eastern German state Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

The University of Rostock is the third oldest university in Germany in continuous operation, and was founded in 1419 by confirmation of Pope Martin V. At the end of the 19th century the university was transformed into a modern university following the Humboldtian model based on Friedrich Schleiermacher's liberal ideas pertaining to the importance of freedom, seminars, and laboratories in universities. Today, the university employs about 3000 people, with about 300 professors representing nine faculties. The university is currently home to about 13000 students.
