Research

The Thermophysical Properties Research Group focuses on determining the physicochemical properties of organic compounds. The primary objective is to characterize chemical systems regarding their suitability for technical applications. A particular emphasis is placed on liquid organic hydrogen carriers (LOHCs) as well as systems for carbon dioxide storage and release. The approaches utilized encompass a range of experimental and theoretical methods:

  • Calorimetric methods: combustion calorimetry, reaction calorimetry, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), Flash-DSC, and solution calorimetry

  • Vapor pressure measurements: static method, Knudsen effusion method, transpiration method, and quartz crystal microbalance (QCM)
  • Measurement of densities, water solubilities, and gas solubilities
  • Quantum-chemical calculations and group contribution methods to determine standard enthalpies of formation, standard entropies, and heat capacities
